Doom What Thou Wilt...

DOOMENTOR is a 4 piece band that was formed in 2011, in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Since then, they have released one demo, one EP and 4 full-lenghts. “Doom What Thou Wilt…” is the last one of DOOMENTOR’s tetralogy, and was released by Unholy Fire Records of Germany in April 2022. “Doom What Thou Wilt…” is a collection of eleven Doom / Heavy / Black / Death Metal songs that develops a story influenced by the concepts of occultism and the Greek Dark Ages (of the 12th – 9th centuries BC to the end of classical antiquity). “Doom What Thou Wilt…” starts with ‘Morbid Souls’, a composition of 8:35 minutes where the crude distinct vocals, the guitar and drum work makes a remembrance in my cerebellum to the Helenic Metal Scene of the early 90s; with a keyboard that produces an interesting atmosphere, keeping a structure that drives you to digest the song smoothly and easily. ‘The Chariot And The Fool’ and ‘The Hierophant’ are the following creations that develop this musical inception, where the clean vocals and some acoustics riffs assemble an imaginary epic Greek story. This pieces will catch you if you are into Occult Doom Metal. ‘Burn With Hate’ is a fusion of Heavy, Black and Doom Metal, where the speed of the riffs is faster than the majority of the other songs. The vocals are executed in a great way and the bass and battery keep the rhythm for a total detestation. ‘Journey Into Emptiness’ is the sixth song and the one that really caught my attention from the first time that I listened to the whole production. Here, the musical order develops a sinister atmosphere where SAMAEL’s and CANDLEMASS’ influences can be heard. “Doom What Thou Wilt…” is lengthy and some songs could have been put out in another production, as an EP (‘Inner Raw’ and ‘The Hanged Man’ are the best examples for this affirmation). The uniqueness that DOOMENTOR achieve occasionally, can get lost immediatly. “Doom What Thou Wilt…” is a good and enjoyable album, but a long one with its 59:44 minutes. The listener can forget and erase the time easily with the lack of patience that floods humanity nowadays. ‘The Masquerade’ with its Black Metal sound, ‘Crypta Diaboli’ with a notable voice and doomy riffs and ‘Doom What Thou Wilt… ‘ with a cold and Nordic arrangement, are the best compositions of the whole album. A great form to culminate the listening, a reward to comprehend DOOMENTOR’s style. If you are into bands as NECROMANTIA, SAMAEL, ROTTING CHRIST and MORTUARY DRAPE, you should give DOOMENTOR’s “Doom What Thou Wilt…” a chance.
