Upon first viewing the band and their stage attire, you may be forgiven to thinking “oh this is the band GAEREA”, or maybe even MGLA. So with saying that, there lies part of my issues with the band. You see, the imagery of the band is very similiar to the aforementioned groups, even UADA comes to mind. Then upon listening to the music itself, I am hearing much of the same approach of those selfsame bands. The main difference with GROZA is a heavy Post Black (emphasis on Post) in their stance and with some minor Black Metal elements in sound and mood. Now I know many typical Black Metal bands with the corpsepaint and being clones of the second wave of Black Metal sound and imagery were / are predominant in the genre, but for some reason I am taking a bit of an issue in wishing for a / the band to have a bit more individualism. Now on the plus side, musically they are quite good and do evoke their own particular mood, evocative of thier lyrical stance. The production is warm and full with the band’s sound cutting throught quite well. The album’s runtime is a mid 42 minutes, so it’s not a long drawn out listen. I have said in many of my past reviews that know and expect what you are getting into. Read reviews, check out the bands online presence etc. If you are a hardcore fan of the aforementioned bands or even the Post Black sound you would do well to give GROZA your support. www.facebook.com/grozaband, www.facebook.com/aoprecs
