Yes, there are faster bands than the French sickos GURKKHAS (ex-D.A.B.), but not too many of them can come up with this frightening fierceness. GURKKHAS were some sort of elite troops in WW2 but the music isn’t “just” acoustical warfare, in my mind it immediately creates an image of a beast jumping at me and tearing me to pieces. Now imagine the effect playing this album at maximum volume will have on your parents or neighbours! Mereover, GURKKHAS have created a special sound over the years making them sound unique indeed. So check out “A Life Of Suffering” or this is exactly what’s going to happen to you… www.multimedia.com/gurkkhas

A Life Of Suffering

With former members of DELAYED ACTION BOMB (D.A.B.) initially a Hardcore Punk / Grindcore band that had been formed in 1990 and that quickly turned into Death Metal, these French maniacs, GURKKHAS, still operating with the idea of playing a solid Death Metal back then, have made three releases so far. A 10 tracks full-length called “Engraved Blood Flesh And Souls” from 2000, a second full-length of eight tracks called “A Life Of Suffering” from 2001 and after this second release, they remained in silence until this July (2024) that they put out a new release also called “A Life Of Suffering” through the label Great Dane Records from France. And that differs from the previous full-length, released back in 2001, by the fact that this one is essentially gathering pretty much most of their old material and bringing GURKKHAS back to life in a sort of compilation of 12 tracks. It combines songs from the first and the second album, even when it’s not been marked as a compilation per se. A change in the color of the artwok, going from some kind of orange-red, not quite sure (2001) to a blue artwork (2024), putting a bigger band logo in front, which becomes a very good presentation for me. Now, the music on this second “A Life Of Suffering” is (again) gathering most of their old stuff, crossing all their stages throughout the years. The band is solid (like a said before) and shows up with these variations all around their discography. You may find even some DEICIDE similarities in a song like ‘Born On A Day Of War’ but the band range in sound and lyrics is way wider and may find some other take.
