Moribund Cult really have a good eye on the old school underground of Black- and Death Metal! After Finlands grim SARGEIST they have a new traditional release, this time from Mexico, this time Death Metal. HACAVITZ (ex – RAVAGER / Osmose) come with a furious debut which will find its listeners within the scene! Technically absolutely convincing (the drummer is a devil!), soundwise clear and powerful with a slight touch of that unique South American flair. Musically they have fallen to their knees before MORBID ANGEL’s altar (especially the soli) and sniffed a dose of DIABOLIC and KRISIUN, making the vocals sounding evil and dark, as sung with a SADISTIC INTENT. Dark, fast and charming Death Metal from the elder days! Unfortunately they put more sound-collages and intros on the album than necessary: sometimes they tried mixing dark sound with traditional Mexican music. Could have been interesting but the effect annoys me more than it creates a cool atmosphere. Nothing against cool interludes but HACAVITZ schould concentrate more on writing Death Metal songs for in that they are way better! And please next time get a better cover designer! This one looks like an example taken from a carpet dealer showing summer’s New Age collection, created by blind and handless monks. No, no, no… But the music kicks nonetheless! www.hacavitz.com, www.moribundcult.com
