Until now, HATE are certainly Poland’s best kept secret, because of a lack of proper distribution outside their homeland. The proof is that I had to wait at least six months to finally get this album, which will be distributed in the western hemisphere only on July 23, through World War III Records for the USA and Candlelight Records for Europe, with a new cover artwork. Well, I am discussing the Polish version here, enhanced with a well done multimedia section, that is a 12 minutes video segment and some band pictures, plus biographic info (in the Polish language…) I don’t know if these additions will be featured in the forthcoming versions of “Cain’s Way”, just wait and see. Those who know HATE already thanks to the compilation album “Holy Dead Trinity” issued last year by World War III (and reviewed by Ramon in these very pages) will not be surprised at all by this new offering. HATE have kept the same winning formula that makes their music far more than simply enjoyable. I read a lot about DEICIDE influences regarding HATE’s music, and I agree with that, especially if I think about albums like “Serpent Of The Light” or “Once Upon A Cross”. Add to this some MALEVOLENT CREATION (“The Ten Commandments”) overtones here and there and you will get a rather precise idea of what is going on throughout “Cain’s Way”, that is said without reducing HATE to the status of mere copyists, because obviously they have their own style. HATE could claim almost the same longevity as VADER really, being formed around 1990, and they could rival their fellow countrymen without any problem. The music on offer on “Cain’s Way” is classic Death Metal, catchy and to the point, with enough hooks to keep the listener’s attention. The album flows like in a dream, and each of the ten songs (I don’t count the outro) sound equally good. There is not too much to say about an album of such a great quality, I can only recommend it strongly to you. The HATE maniacs are currently recording their forthcoming album, so 2002 could be the year of their breakthrough after all.
