"If this recording is not up to your absurd production standards then please do not listen" states the minimalistic booklet. Well, if the production would be the only problem, I’d gladly oversee it. Nevertheless I am pretty sure I will hardly ever listen to this again unless I want to show someone what Black Metal should not be like. Admittedly, I am probably not the most critical person when it comes to Black Metal, but enough is enough. This is supposed to be slow Black Metal that carries its essence with painful shrieks and razor-sharp guitars. What it is, is a typical bedroom Black Metal band with a monotonous drum computer, guitars performed without any idea of timing (which is certainly even worse when your drum computer is tight but without any stresses that could distract from the sloppy playing) and from time to time you hear someone shrieking in. Admittedly though, the vocals are probably still one of the few better things on this album, if it only would not sound as if he sings a part here and a part there by pure coincidence. Adding to this as we know from the beginning is the production: yes, Black Metal has to be raw and yes, production is not really important with most Black Metal recordings, but at least one could try to keep it coherent from song to song! All of the above would not be so bad if this was the first recording of a band in the form of a demo, but according to the discography sent with the CD – telling us additionally that this is a mixture of Judas Iscariot, Xasthur and Leviathan, which of course it is not – this is at least the third album on CD, and some of the MC-releases seem to be albums as well, and this is all in all the seventh release already in three years!
