Although this Brazilian band is still relatively young, they’ve done an amazingly conscientious thing by collecting their demos on a separate bonus disc that comes with their debut album, "Inverted Redemption". The disc collects "First Manifestation Of Heresy", their first demo in 2001, the "Decayed In The Pecaminous Profoundness" 2006 demo and cover of the SARCOFAGO song ‘Black Blood’ from 2008. These recordings are strong in their own right. Demos can only show you so much of a band’s potential. Disregarding the demos, the album itself is unusual not because it’s a brilliant work of Metal, but because it’s hard to determine where one’s appreciation for it lies. In other words, both loving and hating it are almost indeterminable because the album sounds so glazed and watery, it’s unclear how to listen to it. Obviously that alone could spur one to criticize the album, but I’m of a mind that if and when it is promoted enough, and enough people get wind of it, reception will be split down the middle. One year after their demo “Decayed In The Pecaminous Profoundness”, Brazilian Death Metallers IMPETUOUS RAGE strike back with their debut album called “Inverted Redemption”. For those not aware of the band, IMPETUOUS RAGE play old school Death Metal with the usual influences and contrary to most contemporary bands, they do not sound boring and some good ideas float here and there. In my opinion the only “problem” with bands such as IMPETUOUS RAGE is that they are too much focused in self-restricting their style eventually “suffocating” some good ideas that could have been evolved even further in a more personal direction. I guess IMPETUOUS RAGE is one such case, at least in my ears. I am damn sure that if these guys added a pinch of “personality” in their music they could be nearly as good as mighty HEADHUNTER D.C. for instance. Well to be honest I really enjoyed the ‘Massacra’ cover plus the references to old SLAYER at points so I guess to hell with originality, IMPETUOUS RAGE might not be the most original band in the world but are able to write some cool vintage tunes if they want to. To sum it up, IMPETUOUS RAGE is one honest band and “Inverted Redemption” is a decent underground release. Well as I said, it does not have anything new to offer in a scene that is already saturated by tons of similar bands / releases, still the band’s qualities and background makes me anticipate more promising future endeavors.
