There’s something alluring about eastern European Metal. It’s the sort of country notorious in our day and age for keeping the 80s spirit alive; where fans are more die-hard, more dedicated to the bands they love. NADIMAC do their part to enforce this (positive, I think) stereotype by playing one of the 1980s many briefly lived hybrid genres, crossover- and very fast crossover at that (nothing soft like CRYPTIC SLAUGHTER). In fact a discernible stylistic link to bands such as MASSACRA (France) can be heard in many songs on this 14 track album; ‘Samo Kec’, ‘“Izmedju Dve Vatre’ being but a couple. A more rhythmic, and somewhat slower but no less enjoyable, pace sets the tone for the last several tracks. By track 11, ‘Betstvo Od Slobode’, the listener has traveled to a later point in Metal history, the early 90s when American Thrash reached its commercial peak. Ironically, perhaps since this shift from insanely fast crossover to still-fast-but-not-insane Thrash was made by many, many such bands in the 80s, NADIMAC have actually produced a more thoroughly old school album than I at first believed. Hm, this bears some consideration. A very fine cover of KREATOR’s all-time classic “Pleasure To Kill", then two tracks conveniently titled in English, so they’re easy to pronounce, ‘Suicidal Command’ and ‘Grinding Crossfire’. These two tracks conclude on a thrashy note, and thus ends one hell of a good record. The cover art, which depicts a demonic Speed Metal clown gripping what looks like a scythe, looks cool, but what the hell’s with the clown make-up? What are you guys trying to do, trick us into thinking this is a Black Metal album? www.myspace.com/nadimacbend, http://adp.areadeath.net

Clowns are an uncommon sight in Metal. At least I believe it’s fair to say so. I’ve never seen more than a couple, like the one WARGASM’s “Why Play Around?” album or “World Circus,” by TOXIK. And funnily enough I never really bothered to wonder why clown imagery should be such an obscurity in the Metal world because the answer is, quite obviously, because clowns aren’t that brutal, except for maybe when the clown is also wielding a spiked club and has a Speed Metal tattoo on his left arm. This armed and dangerous clown features on NADIMAC’s new album, “Pro Kratkom Postupku”. Still a young band, NADIMAC have many releases under their belts, mostly in the form of splits with other bands. Their style derives from American crossover acts such as SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, SACRED REICH, and assorted Thrash from the European continent. Hailing from Serbia there’s a strong eastern European influence. Indeed on the very first song, ‘Hapsi Sve’, the band sounds a lot like POKOLGEP. Lyrically, though I can’t read or speak Serbian, I’d guess NADIMAC are a left-leaning political band. The vocalist and back-up singers may sound youthful and exuberant but they are also accusing and vindictive in the way songs of protest typically go, the tracks ‘Samo Kec’ and ‘Udri Pseto’ being good examples. But really any track on the album could serve as an example. An occasional Death Metal growl pops up in the middle of a few songs, adding some variation to the vocals and the songs they inhabit. Using what I wager to be ‘You Suffer’ by NAPALM DEATH as template, the band include an amusingly short cover of KREATOR’s ‘Pleasure To Kill’. Good for a laugh. Other than that “Pro Ktrakom Postukpku’ tends to repetitiveness. The album isn’t bad, but would be better were it a few tracks shorter. Nevertheless, NADIMAC is a band worth checking out. www.myspace.com/nadimacbend, www.areadeath.net
