Obviously it was not a wise decision by NASUM’s mastermind Mieszko Talarczyk to spend his Christmas vacation ’04 on Phi Phi Island… his body was found some weeks after the Tsunami. So sadly the fourth album of this Swedish Grindcore maniacs will be the last one. NASUM were quite active and also released some 7″es and there are plans to release a double CD with vinyl-only and demo tracks as a last good-bye to Mieszko. Did I mention that NASUM play Grindcore? Call me insane, but for me “Shift” is one of the greatest releases in this genre due to the fact that NASUM managed to put different influences from Death Metal to Hardcore in their music without leaving the Grindcore area. Many bands got different influences in their music, but then it sounds like for e.g. Grindcore with Death Metal parts. When you listen to such bands you can clearly say: “Now it is the Death Metal part”. Not so NASUM. They melted different styles together so that something really new appeared. First you listen to this album and think it is “normal” Grindcore. But listening to it again and again you will recognize the big variety of influences in this music. So NASUM really put Grindcore to a new level. “Shift” brings you 24 songs of fresh, blasting Grindcore, the ultimate melange of all kinds of extreme music put together in the sign of evil ähh… Grindcore. www.nasum.com
