NECRONOMICON is a legendary Thrash Metal band from Lörrach, a city located in the Baden-Württemberg Federal State, an area in the south west of Germany, that gave birth to other prominent bands in the early ’80s like DESTRUCTION, POISON and OUTRAGE. I have to admit that NECRONOMICON’s self-titled debut album from 1986 is one of my favourite Teutonic Thrash Metal LPs, a very savage assault of punkish Thrash Metal the way it should be played and without compromises. Here we have an interesting collection of their early years, containing the first two demos restored and remastered at Temple Of Disharmony Studios and released by Vic Records. Furthermore, “The Demos” LP contains the tracks ‘Blind Destruction’ and ‘Possessed By Evil’ that in 1986 were included in the compilation entitled “Break Out – German Metal Tracks No. 2”. Both demos were recorded in 1985 and have a raw and primitive sound. “Total Rejection” is a great example of brutal Punk mixed with evil Thrash / Speed Metal. The production is minimalistic and obscure, but everything is perfectly audible. “Total Rejection” is heavily influenced by bands like THE EXPLOITED, DISCHARGE and GBH. Things change a bit when we listen to their second demo “Blind Destruction”. Even here the Punk attitude is present, but the thrashy sound starts to catch on in a more marked way in the songwriting. We can hear echoes of early SODOM, DESTRUCTION, KREATOR and VENOM. The vocals are harsh and raspy, very reminiscent of Angelripper’s from “In The Sign Of Evil” and “Obsessed By Cruelty”. The riffs are great and evil, a violent assault from start to finish with some good melodies à la DESTRUCTION and a bunch of catchy solos too. The drumming is great, solid, precise and we can also listen to a good use of the double bass like in ‘Insanity’. Unfortunately, NECRONOMICON never got the recognition they deserved, probably due to the bad deal that they signed with the rip-off label Wave / Gama.
