So, imagine my surprise, when I started up this latest release from PESTIFER and the sound that blasted forth from my speakers. I was like whoah?! What happened to this band?! Wasn’t PESTIFER all widdly-didly Tech Death? The sound raging from my speakers was the second coming of KRISIUN. You also can throw in a big helping of REBEALLIUN and a smattering of MORBID ANGEL. Needless to say I loved it. Well, come to find that this is the Portuguese version of PESTIFER. I am familiar and own releases from the Belgium iteration. Now, to be honest, I prefer this band and their sound. KRISIUN has been quiet for a while it seems (the last release was 2022) and if you need a fix “Ravaging Fury” will fit the bill in spades. They couldn’t have given it a better name. My main personal criteria for music that I enjoy is power, energy, aggression, so I don’t mind the pummeling at times. The production is bright and clear, although a bit more bottom end wouldn’t hurt. I could go on about both of the guitarists’ skills, the drumming of Diogo Pereira. Although the bassist has his moments (not enough for my liking though), he is present. The vocals are perfect in how they convey the diabolic and visceral sense of the songwriting. I am a huge believer in albums being in that 20-30 minute sweet spot and the band keeps it right at the border. Especially with the pace the band maintains throughout, you gotta keep it straight to the point. Get in and get out. So, if “Ravaging Fury” is in your vocabulary or mindset, take a look into this band. The Portuguese version, mind you. www.facebook.com/pestiferofficial, www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61563068500501
