The Death Metal band ROTPIT was formed back in 2020 and their first demo “Into The Rotpit” hit the scene through Selfmadegod Records. Now this international trio, which consists of guitarist Jonny Pettersson (WOMBBATH, HEADS FOR THE DEAD), singer Ralf Hauber (REVEL IN FLESH, HEADS FOR THE DEAD) and drummer Henrik Posingis (REVEL IN FLESH) returned without making much gap. After providing clues with a single track promo ‘Rottenness’ in 2022, ROTPIT’s debut full-length “Let There Be Rot” is now out in co-operation with War Anthem Records. Their previously released material had enough signs that they are not just a namesake international project group, formed in a rush and burn out sooner. But have intents for making a foothold by playing decent and solid old-styled mid-paced Death Metal. Although many in the genre are having difficulties keeping their mid-paced Death Metal interesting and memorable for long, but that is not the case with “Let There Be Rot”. The album comes with nine tracks lengthening just below 35 minutes and the material is old school to the core with a lot dirtier and more punkish than many expect. This approach certainly helps “Let There Be Rot” to be provoking and maintain variety from a plethora of similar records. Songs like the title track ‘Slimebreeder’ move between Finnish and Swedish Death with immensely catchy components and sets the atmosphere with their typical mid-tempo sound. The catchy riffs will immediately force to bang your head and automatically follow the song. Singer Ralf Hauber will up the massacre furthermore with his disdainful deliverances. The following ‘Night Of The Ultimate Rot’ comes along with more tempo and brings the rotten Punk touches with it. Establishing the variability of this record, the title track ‘Let There Be Rot’ shifts down a gear and comes along with strong riffs and some tempo changes. ‘Rottenness’ and ‘Beastfeaster’ will burst out like a force and remind again, how the dirty growls of singer Ralf Hauber dominate the entire album. The tonality of guitarist Jonny Pettersson and all those sickening riffs conveys the rottenness without frills and compromises. So is Henrik Posingis, who charged his battery with fierce energy and should drop many jaws during ‘Shitburner’ and ‘Deathtrip’. All in all, ROTPIT’s debut album is forged with the essence of rottenness and the trio solidly demonstrates that with their unbending intent. The artwork was done again by T. Kannibalet Hietomaa Art from Finland and it’s transmitting the rotten message of this record which deserves attention from genre fanatics.
