Singapore based Death Metal outfit RUDRA is back again with a new first class album and a new label. The new effort is entitled "Brahmavidya: Primordial 1" and features ten tracks of a very unique and original blend of steel. For those who are not familiar with this squad: the band saw the light of day already back in 1992 and the new album is the fourth longplayer in their career. The band labels their music as ‘Vedic Metal’. In The Vedic age, Rudra was the god of storm and wind (some say he was the god of death as well). In later Hinduism, he became part of the trinity as Lord Shiva, the destroyer. So that’s a short introduction what the name RUDRA stands for. The music of these guys is absolute brillant. They mix Death Metal together with some Thrash and Black elements which works out fantastic. But what makes this stuff so outstanding is the incorporation of traditional Hindu music / scales and the use of classical Hindu instruments as well. The result is quite impressive if you ask me. The songs are complex and performed with high technical skills, but still easy to listen to. The tracks have a very dense atmosphere and you can find here everything a good album needs. Aggressive riffs, a lot of variation in the speed department, great guitar harmonies, tight rhythms, pounding drums etc. The sound quality is impressive and can easily meet international standards. The powerful production compliments each song. It’s hard to pick out one song as you have to listen to the entire album. Nevertheless tracks like ‘Ananya Chatanya’, ‘Veil Of Maya’ or ‘In The Fourth Quarter: Turiya’ are high quality anthems.
