If there is a band which will undoubtedly carry the name of Doom Metal, is this Swedish act. Pure, unaltered, slow and even sleep inducing Doom Metal of the highest caliber. Hypnotic might even fit the description. Still, as I am mesmerized by the great works of the Doom masters, going back to the roots, of early BLACK SABBATH (in their more blues days) and that sometimes a good trance-inducing song can invoke dark images and thought in the mind of the listener, I am afraid SATURNALIA TEMPLE is at times too much for me for listening in one session. Most of the songs are based in very simple and similar patterns, and for the sake of heaviness, even if they do not use such a powerful distortion, the emphasis on the sound that resembles chains dragged by dying victims, and the sorrowful vocals which are just adequate, at times takes away the charm that in some other form this band does possess, especially in the stylistic and the theme of what this band is based. I am sure that the ones looking for occult music will surely receive a bit more than those looking for the music only, probably if accompanied by substances that will awake the third ear.
