SUMMON
And The Blood Runs Black
(Moribund Records)
45:49min

SUMMON’s new CD begins with an atmospheric acoustic guitar intro and I would have never guessed that after such a nice piece of music there would follow a sonic onslaught of aggression and intensity that can be called a new genre standard!!! Black / Death Metal has found its new masters – US warlords SUMMON! They spread their blasphemous art in the underground for 11 years now and I always liked their albums, but to be honest, “Dark Descent Of Fallen Souls” or “Baptized By Fire” for example were nothing more than good Black / Death assaults. Now with “And The Blood Runs Black” this is definitely going to change!!! The riffing is absolutely excellent and concentrates on technical Death and Thrash Metal riffs and not this cheap Black Metal-chords. The drumming is simply inhuman! I don’t know how one can destroy his kit with such precision, great job man!!! The vocals are extremely aggressive, variable and totally fucking possessed!!! A special thanks also belongs to the one and only James Murphy, who produced, mixed and recorded this musical hellstorm and created an absolute fantastic, transparent and brutal sound. My personal favourites on “And The Blood Runs Black” are the intense title-song, ‘The Surround Darkness’ (with some nice riff-ferences to old MORBID ANGEL), ‘Satanic Slut’ (a primitive old BATHORY, SARCOFAGO-like masterpiece) or the sheer unbelievable, violent attacks ‘Spew Forth Blasphemy’ and ‘Necromantic Lust’. Damn, except the crappy VENOM cover ‘Buried Alive’ this album is just perfect. Twelve fantastic songs plus three Intros, a playing time of 45minutes, what more does any fan of hateful Metal need??? This is a fucking must-have!!! The label’s website: www.moribundcult.com Email: moribund@waypt.com
