SVARTTJERN
Dødsskrik

When I had to review this album, I had a vague recollection of not being that much into SVARTTJERN, though after checking up on the Norwegian Black Metal band’s previous efforts, I had to eat that recollection, as the music actually was quite good, which takes us to the new album from the guys, "Dødsskrik". After the intro, the band kicks it straight into ‘All Hail Satan’, and the title says it all, brutal classic Black Metal with a healthy dose of thrashing thrown into the mix. There is a great drive and flow to the music, together with some quite catchy riffing, clever guitar melodies and rhythm patterns, it is hard not to be caught by the music’s energy. A quite good effort from the Norwegians, it won’t go into history, but is a very good picture of contemporary well done energetic driven Black Metal, as we’ve come to expect it from Norway and Sweden, when it is done right. There is a good feel to the music and the dark atmosphere is ever present, well written and clever songs and a good delivery from the musicians, together with some great screams.
