To be frank with you, I awaited absolutely nothing from this release, I thought it was another middle-of-the-road Black Metal record and that’s all. So the bigger the surprise was the first time I listened to “Onori Funebri Rituali”, so much the album has revealed itself extremely good. Needless to say TENEBRAE IN PERPETUUM is a totally unknown band / project, from Italy this time. By the way all the lyrics are in Italian, but fear not, the shrieks on this are so high pitched and hateful that the language barrier is an irrelevant matter to discuss. In case you miss sick records in the vein of “De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas” don’t look any further because “Onori Funebri Rituali” is for you. Yes it is that good, I am not joking here. All the tracks are equally excellent, and the two musicians forming TENEBRAE IN PERPETUUM prove they have a great sense of composing fascinating real songs, full of mystery and gloom while staying firmly in the furious mode. In fact, the band attains unreal speed on some occasions, drummer Vidharr reminding me the mighty (young) Hellhammer when it comes to hit the drum kit hard. The album cause is well served by a great production which is not too refined mind you but clear enough to fully appreciate the grandeur of the music. I can’t single out any particular tracks, so much the quality of the whole is consistent. I regard “Onori Funebri Rituali” as an absolute essential piece of plastic to buy, to me one of the biggest surprises in 2004. For (scarce) info, visit www.blackseedprod.com
