Don’t judge a book by its cover – generally I agree with this motto, but after taking a short look on the cover of this four-track demo-tape and realizing the origin of TRIBULATION, there was no misunderstanding possible. Swedish old school Death Metal. The only point to prove was the quality. And what should I write? Words like excellent, superb, brilliant may give you a hint about the topic “quality”. In fact, this here is one of the best demo-tapes I have been listening to the last year. It is all there what makes Swedish old school Death Metal so enjoyable for me. Fast played, the typical brutal, yet catchy guitar riffs, songwriting that is exactly in the middle between plain and complex, deep grunting and aggressive vocals, a raw sound, lyrics dealing with zombies, cannibals and other deathlike topics, the great black / white cover drawing. If anyone is in need of some bands that play similar stuff, names like REPUGNANT, NIHILIST and MERCILESS (to name just three) can be given as influence. Sadly the demo is currently sold out and I do not know if there will be any new copies, but TRIBULATION are planning to release a new 7″ single, so try to get this one before it is sold out as well!
