Norway’s WHOREDOM RIFE are a nice change to the typical Black Metal from that area. It’s not to say there’s not a wide array of styles in Norway. There are obviously plenty. But regardless of whether there’s a DARKTHRONE, BURZUM or EMPEROR sound to a band, it still somehow feels like Norway. That’s not the case with this duo. Though the sound’s not necessarily completely unique, K.R. (vocals) and V Einride (everything else) breathe fresh air into the country with their third full-length “Winds Of Wrath”. ‘Curse Of The Moon’ is pure Black Metal with its sweltering, atmospheric guitars, rambunctious blastbeats and almost Cookie Monster-ish vocals. ‘A Thousand Graves Endured’ continues the foggy atmosphere as the band creates a masterful abundance of eeriness and mystery to the music. Again, nothing necessarily new here, but just what we need to hear. ‘Gospel Of Hate’ contains raspy, throat-ripping vocals and damn nice riffs. For a duo, the full band sound is accomplished satisfyingly. ‘Hav Av Sykdoms Blod’ will have your head banging as ‘Winds Of Wrath’ is all about the cold surroundings in its aural delivery. Lastly, ‘Einride’ breaks it all down in a midtempo beat that elegantly wraps up this extremely good album. WHOREDOM RIFE don’t play around. You want old school Black Metal? They deliver it on a silver (yet bloodied) platter. If you’ve never given them a listen, what are you waiting for? You won’t be disappointed.
