Uncrossing The Keys
(20 Buck Spin)

This time we have a 20 Buck Spin Black Metal band called WODE. It starts with some epic riffs that sound very obscure. The vocals sound like growling from the dead. It has some double guitar melodies giving the music more depth. There are also some progressive elements here. Maybe like what you can get if you mix TRIBULATION with NECROPHOBIC. There’s some catchy parts thrown in there too. This is not raw and fast Black Metal. WODE is more Melodic / Gothic / Prog Black Metal. ‘Under Lanternlight’ has some Heavy Metal elements thrown in the mix that kind of remind me of what DEATH used to do in the “Symbolic” era. ‘Saturn Shadow’ starts with some industrial beats and guitar rhythms that breaks into a very eerie track. This is the type of album that will take you a couple of listens before you can get an idea of the whole concept, because it has a lots of progressions. There are double guitar melodies that could probably come out of IRON MAIDEN’s “Somewhere In Time”. All of the songs sound different from each other. Michael’s guitar sound also remind me of Mikka from SENTENCED’s Gothic days. There’s some DISSECTION in here too, from their “Reinkaos” era. Not to say that they do not give their own spin to their influences, but you can literally hear the band’s music preferences in their sound. By the time ‘Lash Of The Tyrant’ started the only thing that came to mind was IMMOLATION’s ‘Those Left Behind’. When you listen to it you will hear it too. I don’t get why they included an instrumental here, since it doesn’t add anything to the album. Just to end the whole deal with a chaotic Black Metal mid tempo track that also doesn’t add to the other parts of the album. This one even has a jazzy part? Weird. Give this one a couple of listens because I had to in order to comprehend the release. www.facebook.com/wodecult, www.facebook.com/20buckspin
