German trio ARROGANZ came up with their seventh full-length, rather rapidly after the last one, “Quintessenz”, which was released back in 2024. This new record titled “Death Doom Punks” comes with a line-up change and an amplified sense of purpose with hammering out a style they have refined since their beginning in 2008. And with maintaining their purpose in an already solid discography so far, this record is loaded with the brutality of the old school Death Metal merged with the uncompromising attitude of Punk. The opening single ‘Die For Nothing’ sets a disturbing tone immediately. It serves like frontman K says about dedicating this number as a blade to killing all gods, aimed squarely at religious fundamentalists and political extremists with a lyrical invitation to “poison yourselves”. Musically it’s a solid sounding record with heavy groove and filth, proving that funky basslines and deep throated growls work exceedingly well when honoring names like CARCASS and SIX FEET UNDER. This essence and atmosphere prevailed throughout the nine tracks forged here. Under 40 minutes running time, these Germans displays further maturity in songwriting that speaks out strongly about their 15 years of experience. As felt strongly in other numbers like ‘Under Scarred Skin’ and ‘Pain Forged Armor’, showcasing their ability to stack massive riffs atop attacking heavy bass and drum lines while maintaining a dark atmospheric weight. The production captures a raw clarity that prioritizes direct aggression over modern over polishing, and every element like drums, bass and guitars is sustained with a forcefulness. These grow more into the deeper part of the record, in numbers like the title track and in ‘Anti-Ideology’, ‘Arsenic Breath’ and ‘Incubus’ Veins’. A noteworthy highlight in ‘Incubus’ Veins’ are the guest vocals from Zingultus (ENDSTILLE, MORAST), which add a layer of seasoned malice to the band’s already corrosive output. The lyrics address the personal, the philosophical and the social, in a context of stark reality that throws down truths and exposes a critical look at the state of the world. Also, how it’s getting impacted with wrecking certainties of religious manipulation and taking comfortable lies off the table through a lens of philosophical darkness. As accurately those can be detected from the ‘Die For Nothing’, ‘Under Scarred Skin’, ‘Earths Final Dose’ and the record closer ‘Spirit Arsonist’. The artwork also gives away this essence at first glance and with all these, in “Death Doom Punks” ARROGANZ marked their ability to forge strong compositions alternating between aggressive and darker passages. This is allowing the band’s evolution to be felt without losing the energy that strengthened them as a force of authenticity and not compromising for the sake of fleeting trends.
