Demos 1993 - 1994
(Darkness Shall Rise Productions)

Austrian Black Metal elders ABIGOR in collaboration with Darkness Shall Rise Productions have taken a look at the vault of ABIGOR’s past to release their demo material from 1993 – 1994. These demos include: ‘Lvx Devicta Est” demo from 1993, “Promo Tape 2/94” demo from 1994, “Ash Nagz…” demo from 1993, “Moonrise” demo from 1994 and “In Hate & Sin” demo from 1994. Several of the songs on those demos would find their way into ABIGOR’s debut album “Verwüstung / Invoke The Dark Age”. These hard to find and long sought after demos getting another lease on life with this release will appease the Black Metal masses. I’ve been a big fan of the band since 1995 when I read about them in Metal Maniacs, but back then, since the internet was in its early stages, it was hard to find anyone in town that had any ABIGOR material on hand to make me a mix tape (yes, I am from the mix tape era). Ok, so for starters a couple of things to remember: these are demos and you can expect the recording quality to not be great and these demos were recorded in 1993 / 1994, so production wise don’t get your hopes high. Alright, so as previously mentioned, several of these tracks would later appear on the debut album, but it’s really cool to finally get to hear the demo versions of some of these classics. The raw production and feel you get while listening to these demos set the ambiance from a time long passed. Classic tracks like, ‘In Sin’, ‘Kingdom Of Darkness’, ‘Eye To Eye At Armageddon’, ‘Diabolic Unity’ and ‘Universe Of Black Divine’ are all presented here in their early demo forms. The vocals fluctuate from muffled to clearly understood on each demo. The drums and bass are a bit drowned out (but hey, from this era most demos had that same issue). Second wave of Black Metal elements were all in place. Eerie dark / atmosphere, screeching vocals, fast paced songwriting, cold / grimness. Overall this was a much needed win for fans of ABIGOR and Black Metal in general. The band’s discography would not be complete without a proper release of their previously hard to find demo material, the band’s legacy speaks for itself and this was a nice time capsule into the band’s past to see where things started from. Huge shout out to Darkness Shall Rise Productions for taking this monumental step in getting these demos cranked out, especially to the newer generations of Black Metal listeners. Highly recommend you check out this demo material of a bygone era (“Demos 1993 – 1994” is available as a DIN A5 digibook 2 CD package with a 48 page booklet, featuring an in-depth interview, all demo covers and lots of old pictures. It is also available as a 2 LP set in different versions as well as digitally – Frank). www.facebook.com/abigorblackmetal, www.facebook.com/darknessshallriseproductions
