What we have here is another compilation CD and that’s not a bad thing, as some of the tracks were originally on stuff that is no longer available. If you’re a fan of ABSCESS then you will like this release (in detail it features ABSCESS material from their split releases with POPULATION REDUCTION, BONESAW and EAT MY FUK, 3 songs from a 1999 rehearsal, 5 songs that were recorded live at the Maryland Deathfest in 2009, another two live songs from the Los Angeles Murderfest 2009 and one live song from a 2005 show in San Francisco – Frank). I am a fan of Chris Reifert, Danny Coralles and Clint Bower and whomever they have on bass at any given moment. But for me since the beginning, the problem with ABSCESS… the punky side, I mean I have a problem with Punk’s pretentiousness and many of their stances. So whenever I here the Punk side of ABSCESS coming out it greats me, it gets on my nerves and it’s been like that since I first heard ABSCESS’ first demo "Raw Sewage Brutal Noise". But then I realize it’s Chris Reifert, Clint Bower talking about sickening, disgusting unholy whatever they’re singing about, and then I realize, hey it’s not that bad. And besides some of these Punk songs with the heaviness of the guitars developed into really good rippers. But then again we have the rest of the songs which are fucking intense ripping brutal noise Death Metal, and that always brings a happily sickened smile to my face. And then I must headbang. Verily. My only small bone of contention and I’m not talking about my penis here, is that of my favorite ABSCESS track ‘Patient Zero’ available on the live part of this comp CD (by the way the live tracks are crisp heavy and raw a very good representation of what I would have seen live if I had experienced an ABSCESS show which unfortunately I did not) is not sung in a most sickening fashion way by Mr Clint Bower. And I never thought I would say this but I don’t like Chris Reifert’s vocals on ‘Patient Zero’ a hundred percent. But I like them anyway. So in conclusion if you like your Death Metal done by Mr Chris Reifert and Danny Coralles and Clint Bower you know what to fucking expect, except that there is a little added punky spice to the mix. www.abscessfreaks.com www.aphelionproductions.net
