The effect that a label like Norma Evangelium Diaboli has especially on the French scene never ceases to amaze. Even a band like ARKHON INFAUSTUS, which in the past enlightened the scene with works such as “Dead Cunt Maniac” all of a sudden come up with heavily contorted religious titles and artwork. Trend-hopping of the more positive kind me thinks. And while still not up to the enormous standard of said label’s recording artists the music on offer here is a decent enough offer for sure. Comparisons with New York Death Metal gods IMMOLATION are inevitable, just listen to the massive ‘When They Have Called’ on their Myspace domain (in case you shouldn’t be too true to use such despisable instruments of mass-manipulation). Twisted, distorted riffs and creepy soundscapes are the order of the day, and they pull it off with conviction and class without getting lost in pretentious wannabe-avantgardism (new MAYHEM / ABIGOR anyone?).
