DECREPITAPH / ETERNAL SOLSTICE
Paradise In Decomposition / Brutal Awakening
(Dark Descent Records)

Good damn, DECREPITAPH are an active bunch. Again a new split 7" EP and if I remember correct another one was recently released together with ANATOMIA. So, don’t know what they do for a living, or what they have the chance to do, as I suppose their band activities must take plenty of time, haha. The band offers on side A the great ‘Paradise In Decomposition’, recorded in January 2010. To tell you the truth, I’m not an in-depth adept of DECREPITAPH but from what I heard so far the band is getting more and more attractive to me with their sound of old school Death Metal somewhere between the American and European (not Swedish) Death Metal scene of the good ol’ days. Brutal yet catchy, filled with great atmosphere and a voice full of reverb. I like that! Unfortunately the song stops a little too fast. I would have preferred to have it lasting a little longer, but ~4 minutes of a great song are still ok. I like it. And no need to worry as usually good things continues on side B. And this side offers a band I didn’t expect to release something again. ETERNAL SOLSTICE convinced me many many years ago with their few full-length releases (well, don’t owe all of them, to be honest) and I still can remember how I enjoyed their split-album "At The Dawn Of…" with MOURNING. Unfortunately they never really got the attention they deserved. Nevertheless it’s good to have them back. ‘Brutal Awakening’ is their contribution to this black vinyl offering and it’s a fine song, a brutal awakening of their old style. Well, I got the impression that they haven’t forgotten anything and they simply kick ass with their groovy Death Metal, a little in the vein of good old GOREFEST meets BOLT THROWER, but a comparison on a 7" EP like this is nonsense. This is a 100% underground release and something special for the Death Metal maniacs out there. Go check it out if you haven’t already. Dark Descent Records are simply doing a great job with releases like this, so full support to the label and those 2 great Death Metal bands.
