Apotheosis

Already full-length number four by Danish based DEIQUISITOR, which lurk the underground since 2013. In addition to the albums, the band has released four EPs and a split called “Tetralogy Of Death” together with UNDERGANG, PHRENELITH and TAPHOS, and all releases have consistently received good reviews. So the interesting question is: can the band keep the level? In my opinion both yes and no. Yes, because the nine songs are a brutal slab of old school Death Metal. Strongly influenced by New York Death Metal in the vein of early SUFFOCATION, IMMOLATION and MORTICIAN. If someone told me this was an old, unreleased album by mentioned bands, I would immediately believe it. This kind of murky and muddy guitar sound, the songwriting, the breaks and blast beats come pretty close to the originals. Only MORTICIAN’s generic movie samples are missing and everyone can decide for themselves whether they find it good or bad. But there is one aspect that I personally find quite a pity and that’s why I look at the album with mixed feelings. There are lots of obscure, swirling riffs in the vein of early MORBID ANGEL or DEMILICH which sadly get lost in the maelstrom of brutality and the down tuned sound. For fans of cavernous Death Metal “Apotheosis” is a highlight for sure. But I personally can not deny the feeling that there is a beast waiting beneath the surface, waiting to be unleashed. Hopefully with the next album! In the meantime, fans of the so-called caveman Death Metal can visit www.facebook.com/deiquisitor or www.facebook.com/extremelyrottenproductions
