The band is not entirely sure yet, but it could be that “Kill All Idols” is their last album. Do not worry, there is no talk of a split-up, but you do not get any younger and can not always floor the accelerator. Germany’s finest Black / Thrash Metal band will hopefully remain with us for a long time to come. If this is indeed their last full-length release, then one must acknowledge without envy that the band combined all their typical trademarks at the highest level on these nine songs plus outro. DESASTER have been one of the defining forces in German Black / Thrash Metal since the late 1980s. The band from Koblenz has developed a distinctive style over the decades, combining raw energy, traditional Metal spirit and an uncompromising attitude. Musically, DESASTER fuse the aggressive, riff-driven Thrash Metal of the 1980s in the vein of SODOM, DESTRUCTION or VENOM with the dark atmosphere and ferocity of Black Metal. Their sound is organic and unpolished: buzzing guitars, mid-tempo, but also often galloping drums. Above all a harsh, snarling vocal delivery that shifts between shouting and Black Metal rasping. Lyrically, DESASTER focus on pagan and warlike themes, historical imagery and a fierce anti-Christian stance yet avoiding any platitudes. Their lyrics evoke visions of battle, blood, honour and destruction, channelling an archaic, myth-inspired worldview that perfectly complements their martial sound. Visually and in spirit, DESASTER embody the essence of old school underground Metal, such as leather, spikes, denim and a straightforward, unpretentious stage presence that stands for authenticity and passion rather than commercial polish. Despite their long-standing international recognition, the band has remained faithful to their do it yourself roots and continue to command cult status within the scene. Albums such as the debut “A Touch Of Medieval Darkness” (1996), “The Arts Of Destruction” (2012) and “Tyrants Of The Netherworld” (2000) showcase how DESASTER have refined their sound over the years without betraying their origins. With “Kill All Idols” they once again proved that after more than three decades they have lost none of their intensity or conviction – a powerful testament to the fact that true Metal knows neither trend nor time.
