Swiss ELLENDE formed in 2011 and “Todbringerin” is their fifth full length so far. Describing their music seems a bit complex, but dreamy, beautiful and at times terrifying could probably fit the description of their Black Metal influenced atmospheric music. Although I can hear some Post Metal, and a bit of more atmospheric type sounds, more likely found in some Folk influenced bands, the thing here is that it also has a lot of an art film soundtrack of a suspense movie, where it seems horror is around, yet it all sounds so comfortable that it all might have a good ending… The connection to Black Metal are probably the vocals, and some fast riffing here and there, but besides that, this a very atmospheric music album. And then, it is all created by one musician with some help on the drums. It seems the band started to play live, and I’m pretty sure that they do have a selection of songs that are more likely to be played on a Metal stage than a more ambient one. And let me tell you, the songs are heavy, the production is perfect and you can definitely listen to a basic Rock’n’Roll sound in their compositions, yet there is always the atmospheric element present. I just wonder if this music style would probably go better with clean vocals, and I was thinking along the lines of what Peter Steele was doing in TYPE O NEGATIVE or mid era Nick Holmes… well, the sky’s the limit… I’m pretty sure that fans of the more atmospheric Metal, Post-Rock / Black whatever, will definitely like this, and the more traditional Black Metaller will probably not enjoy it as much, but strictly speaking of their music, it is quite interesting on its own, and with a good discography, it is not a bad idea to check their earlier material. www.facebook.com/ellende.official, www.facebook.com/aoprecs
