Indonesian Black Metallers FORBIDDEN TOMB have cranking out music since their first demo in 2020 and have been relentless with each release. I could not find info on the band members, but they did tally up; two demos, four full length albums (yes that is correct four albums in the past five years), four split releases, and two compilations. To say the band has been keeping busy from the start would be an understatement. When this release from 2022 came to my inbox I was surprised to see a review for an album that was two years old. Either way I was intrigued to see what the band brings to the table once I saw they recorded a cover of a SATANIC WARMASTER song. Kicking things off on this release is the track ‘Underneath The Decaying Aeon’. First impressions are this is a very lo-fi release and you could only clearly hear the guitars. The vocals were more of a whisper exhalation with little to no understandable words. The drums are very basic, nothing that stood out, but that was partially due to a the poor quality in the production / mics of the drums. I could hear the snare, kick and ride. Things did not get much better as the subsequent songs came on. Each song is very redundant to the point I could not tell the songs had changed. As previously mentioned the band covered a SATANIC WARMASTER track, ‘The Burning Eyes Of The Werewolf’ (taken from the BEHEXEN / SATANIC WARMASTER split from 2008), which is one of my favorite SATANIC WARMASTER songs, but man this cover version was brutal and not in a good way. The band basically butchered the track and made it into a mesh of whispering vocals and distorted guitars that I could barely hear the changes. Overall, this is your typical run of the mill copy-cat ’90s worship Black Metal. No imagination, no uniqueness, no bueno. I know there are a lot of die hards out there that only listen to lo-fi Black Metal and for that crowd this would fit nicely into their collection, but if you are looking for something with substance that you could play on repeat, then this is not the release for you. In my opinion you could easily pass on this release as there are more quality releases out there that do stand out. For more info: http://forbiddentomb.bandcamp.com, www.morbidchapelrecords.com
