French HIMINBJØRG come up with their sixth full-length, "Chants D’Hier, Chants De Guerre, Chants De La Terre". Mainly this is an interesting release, both music and concept wise. Quoting the band’s website "It’s purpose is to sing for the ears of those who hear and to whisper in the ears of those who awaken." In my humble opinion, this is a traditional hymn and a statement of pagan and ancient tradition. Considering this is a self-produced album (released on the band’s own label) the production is really good, clear and the mix is well balanced. There is a vast array of instruments, such as violins, flutes and acoustic guitars. Add Black, Folk and Pagan Metal influences and you have an album that is constantly shifting and changing moods. Personally, it is not my cup of tea, but I can’t deny that being this my first listen to HIMINBJØRG, this album is a good listen that deserves the attention of metal fans.
