PATHOGEN
Miscreants Of Bloodlusting Aberrations

Hailing from San Pablo, PATHOGEN is, as far as I know, one of the best known bands from the Philippines. "Miscreants Of Bloodlusting Aberrations" is not the follow-up to last year’s "Forged In The Crucible Of Death", but a re-release of its forerunner. Originally released in 2010 only on tape by the completely unknown label Satanized, Dunkelheit Produktionen releases PATHOGEN’s second album now for the first time on CD and vinyl. From start with ‘Atrocity Exhibit’, the Philippine quartet shows us, who is the boss: brutal Metal, somewhere between old school Death Metal and 1980s Thrash Metal. Imagine a mix of old MASTER, SACRIFICE, very old MORBID ANGEL (ca. "Abominations Of Desolation") and ABOMINATION, add a very charming raw production, remove mercy and present this mix unhindered by too much talent and you might imagine how songs like ‘Heretical Wisdom’, ‘Leviathan’ or ‘Uranium Messiah’ (my fave here and a fine finish as well) sound like. Don’t get me wrong: PATHOGEN definitely know how to play their instruments, sufficient enough to create pure brutality. But they don’t serve gourmand stuff here. They don’t even want to, I guess. And this is good! Oh, before I forget: PATHOGEN present us a well done cover of the SACRIFICE classic ‘Afterlife’ here, which fits in perfectly. If you don’t want your wheel to be re-invented, "Miscreants Of Bloodlusting Aberrations" should be a fine one for you.
