Gnarly midpaced Death Metal madness, rumbling away with solid guitar riffing, eerie guitar melodies, crunchy basslines, attuned rhythm spatters and a great rasping growl of yesteryears, is what makes up this debut album from Romanian ROTHEADS, a fairly new entity, that hopefully will haunt us for years to come. Again a new band taking hold in the good old days of Death Metal, when it was new, exciting and very hardhitting – though twisting it their own way, so we get what we liked back then, seen and reworked with new eyes. I actually like such, when it is delivered with the sheer intensity as ROTHEADS manages to do. They have taken a quite simple appraoch to things, though their mix of Swedish, American, German / Dutch and Finnish inspirational sources, works really well as they accomplish to bring a ton of atmosphere into the music, together with great paceshifts, gnarly interludes and great build ups. The production of the album is also quite nice. It has been mixed and mastered at Moontower Studios in Barcelona, a place known for bringing even more weight onto heavy Death Metal, and that is also what we have here, a heavy and hardhitting production with just the right feature. "Sewer Fiends" is a damn fine debut album of chugging dark atmospheric Death Metal, and I do even find a little hommage to NIRVANA in the opening of the track ‘Servants Of The Unlight’ and the subtle use of synth during the 10 minutes ‘The Mad Oracle Of Sewerpolis’ is damn refined, a great start to a recording career.
