SCARECROW from southern Finland are, despite their 15 years existence, totally new to me. Therefore it’s some kind of a balancing act to look at those years, and their evolution from here and now. The “Maggot Box” now is a collection of 15 years “Fast, Thrashing, Horror Punk”. What I experience is alternately either, simple Punk Rock with sing along attitude, Hardcore, something like Black Thrash Metal, excursions to Melodic Punk and and and. Everything possible and fancy inbetween. To me, too much too weird to chum up. I do take account of the fact that I am looking at a decade of progress, band member, and influences changing and so on. But if you release a box, summing up their history, you do it to sale it to die hard fans. Not really to catch new ones I think. So without being just an ignorant supreme commander from review plant, I have to admit, I haven’t been caught. That criss-cross racing threw styles doesn’t feel like you are witnessing an advantage. It feels more like not being sure about the kind of music they like to play. Personally I can’t stick to so much uncertainty. Anyway there are a few pretty nice songs on that record. And for fans I suppose it is a nice journey full of memories. In a nutshell, as often with collections, every first hour fan has to get this I guess.
