VALGRIND
Millennium Of Night Bliss

VALGRIND hail from the Emilia-Romagna region in Italy. If you didn’t know, this region had major flooding and was in the news recently, terrible stuff! Anyway, VALGRIND’s roots are firmly held in the traditional old school Death Metal sound, part melodic, part war-like siren and a major throwback to the simple and good times. I have to say the guitar work is absolutely stellar. Case in point is the opening parts of track #2 ‘Banished By Celestial Harmonies’, absolutely evil in nature with a melodic touch that pays homage to the Swedes. VALGRIND work off a brilliant template here. The vocals are your standard Death Metal vocals that add in both depth and another dimension to the sound of the band. The drumming is just as needed, there is absolutely not a single extra note anywhere for the purposes of ostentation, no knick knacks whatsoever here. The guitars are truly the highlight of the album though, the riffs stand in the background providing much needed heaviness but the leads simply take the centrestage here. The closest I can come to for comparison purposes, especially keeping the guitarwork in mind is MORBID ANGEL! Some sections are absolutely unforgiving and it just makes sense. The leads just impress throughout the album and it is such a strongpoint of the album. I even enjoyed the little interlude which is just as delicious with some spectacular tapping on the guitar whilst managing to not sound like a complete showoff! This is a very surprise release for me, I didn’t have this on my radar at all, but I’m really glad I picked this up.
