VOID ROT
Descending Pillars
(Everlasting Spew Records)

VOID ROT present to us a dark atmospheric cloud that shrouds all senses, there are no gimmicks on this album, no gallant display of instrument wizardry, it’s just plain old consuming Metal that we’ve come to appreciate. “Descending Pillars” is a honourable homage to old school Death Metal. Is this atmospheric Death Metal? Or is this Doom Death? Or is this dark Death Metal? I dont care! I am thoroughly enjoying the sound of the band. It’s like laying a foundation at first, the guitars drill down to the depths to bear the burden. They’re an incessant harmony of chainsaws that the band artfully delivers start to finish. In short, speed up DISEMBOWELMENT’s approach, add a tasteful pinch of Chris Reifert’s drumming and to give the final touch just engulf the entirety of it with an unforgiving dome of celestial heaviness. That in short is what VOID ROT achieve on this slab of Metal, they also do it successfully much to the delight of fans. This is the sound I’d love to experience live. As confidently as I say that this album has an identity of its own, I’m unable to say the same for every single song on this album. Right from the first track ‘Descending Pillars’ the band’s formula is pretty much constant. It’s not necessarily a bad thing but then again I was expecting more of this band. I wanted them to build upon the melodies that they’ve presented to us but perhaps we will see something of it in the future. Till then I’ll be following this band with interest. Recommended for all fans of Metal. Do spend some time with this record, it truly shines at places and is an all round solid record. Get a copy!
