B. Kråbøl is a busy man. Besides rocking out in ENEVELDE, he is handling MISOTHEIST as well, and on top of that, he’s active in the KRÅBØL family band as well. The first MISOTHEIST album was released in 2018 and the first sounds of ENEVELDE in 2020. There have been three MISOTHEIST albums, four releases, counting “Pandemonium” from ENEVELDE, and the debut album from KRÅBØL last year. So many releases in that relatively short time, from dominantly one man’s hand, one could fear a creative meltdown or repetitive measures to get things in place. Though not in the case of these three entities. Of course there are resemblances, as we are speaking of Nidrosian Black Metal, though overall we are getting a quite diverse universe served. Nidaros is the arcane name for Trondheim, and people and bands around the area have been building a strong scene, perhaps the strongest Black Metal scene as we speak. A scene built upon mysticism, ritualism, dark and haunting atmospheres, aggression and eerie and haunting melodies. From the very start of ENEVELDE I’ve always found hints towards THORNS, a band that has its roots in Trondheim as well, and we do also get a THORNS medley on the “Gravgang” EP from 2021. This time around the THORNS elements is immense. Just take the melodic guitar riff in ‘Negromantia’ that bows heavily towards THORNS and again the melodic and haunting outro riff in ‘Eksilfyrste’ amazingly incorporated homage to the older ones. The “Trøndertun” tape and “The Thule Tape” must have had a major impact in B. Kråbøl’s musical upbringing. MAYHEM era “De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas” is also a heavy influence of the band. The thick dark atmosphere draws you into a cloak of mysticism as MAYHEM also did with the mentioned album. We also have a few riffs and build ups nodding towards said album. But again, weaved into the overall music and atmosphere, it works well. Clever songwriting and delivery. “Enevelde” and especially “Gravgang” hit it right off with me. “En Gildere Død” took me quite a while to get into. “Pandemonium” hit it right off as well, with its haunting guitar riffs and lines, drumming kept in the back of the mix, with a healthy dose of echo – most of the music and especially the mix and atmospheres takes me right back, to when I first delved into the early releases of the Norwegian second wave Black Metal scene – with the rumours of albums being recorded in dark forests, humid grottos, well more likely just humid basements with no sound proofing, none the less it was magic back then, and some of that magic has been brought back within the Nidrosian Black Metal scene, and this album hits it hard.
