ANATOMIA
Dissected Humanity

The 20th anniversary vinyl reissue of ANATOMIA’s debut album “Dissected Humanity” is not just a celebration of time passing, it’s a reminder of how something truly rotten can stay alive beneath the surface, slowly decomposing, never really dying. And if you’ve been paying attention to Death / Doom in the last two decades, you already know that ANATOMIA needs no introduction. Emerging from the shadows of Japan’s underground, and formed by ex-members of the legendary TRANSGRESSOR, ANATOMIA built a sound that’s as heavy as it is hideous. “Dissected Humanity”, originally released in 2005, still sounds like a corpse dragged from the basement and nailed to a rusted altar. It crawls, it groans, it seeps putridity from every pore. This it’s a goddamn crypt. “Dissected Humanity” moves at a mostly doomy, mid-to-low tempo, like a slow, inevitable decline into the soil. But just when you get into a trance, the heaviness erupts like a rotting casket wide open. The vocals? Beyond cavernous, making the whole thing even more disturbing, because the horrors being described don’t hide behind abstraction. We all remember that there’s a hypnotic atmosphere the way the songs unfold on this album. And I don’t really think this masterpiece needs any explanation at this point. ANATOMIA was simply interested in raw emotions, slow death and two decades later, “Dissected Humanity” is simply vital. This reissue, handled by Nespithe Records and Futhark Records out of Toronto, is the kind of release that feels necessary. Not because we need to be reminded of ANATOMIA’s legacy (they’ve done that consistently over the years with a barrage of splits, demos, live tapes and albums), but because “Dissected Humanity” is still relevant, still unholy, still essential. Put the needle down, let the darkness swell, and rot in real time. For the taste of sickness. What we have here is a great slab of Doom / Death Metal. ANATOMIA comes from Japan and consists mostly of ex-members of TRANSGRESSOR. It is slow, it is crawling, going deep into the filth and matter. Influences are obvious upon the first hearing: AUTOPSY, CIANIDE, DISEMBOWELMENT. But influences come here only as inspiration since ANATOMIA have their own way on imposing decadent aesthetics on their listeners. Music is mostly down / mid tempo with occasional blastbeats. Vocals are among the deepest I have ever heard, but surprisingly you can understand alot of the words. If you like the style that old masters AUTOPSY created there is really a lot to like here – it is disgusting, merging on the putrid gore but deeply immersed in rotting beauty. This is a special album, from a special band not following trends, dedicated to suffocate their listeners in a foul black hole sound of death. What is this black pearl shining deep beyond the layers of funeral smell in the feasting pits? Put it in your CD player and die a sweet death. I like it!
