This is the fifth full length release from this band from Spain, and as the devil acts in mysterious ways, this is also my fifth time reviewing the band, and thus admiring their incredible development to what we have here now in front of us. Starting as a very competent Black Metal band with heavy Death Metal overtones, they have always presented very good productions and very heavy guitar sounds. Through the time, they have not went away from their style, but started incorporating different influences that range from Psychedelic Rock music, Progressive Rock and even some Post Punk sounds here and there. I know that this is not the first time a band that starts like that and tries to fuse those sounds, but in this case, with over 40 years being a Metalhead, I can tell you without a doubt that these guys are undoubtedly at the top of their game. They never forget to use dark, eerie melodies and the musicianship is kept on top. I can sense that kind of dark energy that some bands in the ’70s were trying to express in other musical styles, yet with a similar result: music coming from the darkest depths of the unknown. Besides that the lyrical side has always been about that we are just mortals and that although we can be darkness, we can also be light… shining where no god can be a part of it. I was completely absorbed by their previous album “Eve”, but his one is a definitive step forward. The influences of old are still there, with MAYHEM being one (“De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas” and I can also hear “Grand Declaration Of War”), some similar to early OPETH and some similar in style to DEATHSPELL OMEGA. Add to that the old school Rock and Prog influences and their very own touch, and this creation of darkness and no hope is created. This last month I have been listening a lot to Spanish bands by mere coincidence, and no one can deny that they have killer bands in many styles like ÁNGELES DEL INFIERNO, BARÓN ROJO, SANTA, the guys from AVULSED, UNBOUNDED TERROR, OUIJA, to bands like NETER, SOMNUS or ERED. It seems mother land calls for blood… but these maniacs from BALMOG have really outdone themselves with a timeless masterpiece for ages to come. Contestant for album of the year without doubt! www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100063606525380, www.facebook.com/waranthemrecords
