ESCARNIUM
Inexorable Entropy

“Inexorable Entropy” is the fourth full length album from the Brazilian Death Metal band ESCARNIUM. These guys come from Salvador, the capital of the northeastern State of Bahia, that is one of the most important Brazilian regions for extreme Metal because it gave birth to names such as MYSTIFIER, HEADHUNTER DC and POISONOUS. The album is released by the Italian label Everlasting Spew Records, a well known brand for old school Death Metal copycats (I couldn’t disagree more! – Frank) and ESCARNIUM are not an exception to this formula. Here we have an average band (I once again couldn’t disagree more! The album is on heavy rotation here since I received it. – Frank) that tries to resurrect the sound of early IMMOLATION, INCANTATION, DISCIPLES OF MOCKERY and MORBID ANGEL. The sound and the guitarwork are obscure and sick with some parts pretty reminiscent of modern blackened Death Metal acts like BEHEMOTH and BELPHEGOR too. The voice are guttural, cavernous and is perfectly mixed with the dark melodies of the guitars, that here and there pay tribute to the ancient Swedish gods too, especially GRAVE. Another strong point is the drumming: very fast and chaotic in the purest tradition of the Brazilian school. For sure this is a gloomy, brutal and solid release, a pretty good half an hour of old school Death Metal in the vein of the new wave from the 21st century. Nothing new on the horizon, but a well composed and executed album that will meet the needs of those on the hunt for talented and promising clones of the ’90s golden age of Death Metal. To be honest, taking into account the top quality brutal drumming, I would have preferred a more pronounced Brazilian touch, something more rooted in the local roots like KRISIUN, MENTAL HORROR, OPHIOLATRY, ABHORRENCE and REBAELLIUN. www.facebook.com/escarnium, www.facebook.com/everlastingspew
