When I’m not listening to Death, Black or Thrash Metal, I use to put on more doomy, slower stuff such as SAINT VITUS, CANDLEMASS or the first CATHEDRAL. Now MOURNING BELOVETH can be added to this list. They are a fantastic band from Ireland, whose "Dust" album I will listen to in the coming months, when I feel the need for some really dark, really heavy, really slow and emotional Doom / Death. MOURNING BELOVETH mix old MY DYING BRIDE and SOLITUDE AETURNUS in total perfection!!! The sound is raw, powerful and warm, Darren’s growls are so deep and brutal, that even usual Death Metal fans should be convinced to give this band a serious chance, the clean vocals are also great – they sound in fact like SOLITUDE AETURNUS and easily top the clean parts MY DYING BRIDE’s Aaron delivers. Sounds good, huh? I definitely do not exaggerate, MOURNING BELOVETH are that good!!! A song like the opener ‘The Mountains Are Mine’ or ‘Autumnal Fires’ are sinister, yet melodic masterpieces no Doom / Death fan should miss. The eight songs on "Dust" contain one Demo track (recorded 1998), which actually sounds more like CATHEDRAL’s "In Memoriam" than MY DYING BRIDE and offers even a slight sick feeling. Also an unmixed song from MOURNING BELOVETH’s upcoming effort "The Sullen Sulcus" (will be released on Aftermath Music) can be found here and shows that the band is not about to change on their next depressive piece of art. Well, if you have no problem with the bands I mentioned or are a declared fan of Doom / Death Metal, get this CD and I promise you will not be disappointed. There are not many bands around who play this style in such high quality and I hope in MOURNING BELOVETH’s case this is going to be recognised and honoured! Have a look at their website, because you can listen to some of their material there: www.mourningbeloveth.com If you look for information regarding the availability of "Dust" surf to the Sentinel Records site: www.sentinelireland.com
