RIBSPREADER
Life Crawls - The Best Of Ribspreader
(Iron, Blood And Death Corporation)
79:10min

RIBSPREADER should be known to all lunatics, who listen to old school HM-2 Death Metal from Sweden, as this is one of the dozen projects from Rogga Johansson. Founded in 2003, the project celebrates its 20th anniversary, after nine full-length albums and several EPs and split releases this year, so Iron, Blood And Death Corporation decided to put out a best of with 80 minutes of shredding Death Metal. The compilation starts with two solid tracks from their last album “Crypt World”, which deliver solid uptempo Death Metal, with good drumming, old school grunts and the genre-defining shredding guitars. ‘Dead Reigh Rotting’ offers some DISMEMBER styled songwriting, while ‘A Night To Dismember’ is more in the vein of ENTOMBED during their mid ’90s era. The songwriting is solid, but the production is sounding like a better demo, and as I mentioned before in other reviews, often the material is very good, but lacks of a proper production. ‘Departure L.A.’ is more in the direction of VOMITORY or even some DESULTORY can be heared. ‘Come Out And Play’ is another groovy monster and proofs that Rogga is definitely the person that kept this style alive over the past twenty years, even though some old protagonists re-appear here and there, but he is really the one who breathes this rotten stenchy air and lives that in every project on every single day satan grants us worthless worms on earth. I could continue and mention every single track, but Rogga manages to recapture a lot of good moments with his melodies (‘A Worthless Breed’ is DISMEMBER worship at its best). As he changes the labels often, the given budgets vary and so the recording qualities do, but most of the 22 songs are really worth to hear and give a great overview over his work with RIBSPREADER and that this project needs to be considered as one of the best in this genre. Every fan of the ’90s Stockholm scene should get this compilation to listen to in the car as this is value for money.
