In the last two years, DEATHSTORM really became a joy for the old thrashing geezer I am. Both, 2016’s “Blood Beneath The Crypts” album and last year’s compilation “Storming The Gallows”; were and still are a joy for anyone into honest and energetic old-fashioned Thrash Metal. Reviewing the compilation last year, I regretted it was not a new full album. Well, the Austrian four piece didn’t waste much time to fulfill my wish, so here’s the new album “Reaping What Is Left”. And again DEATHSTORM released an extremely fine Thrash Metal album that doesn’t need to hide behind old classics of the golden age. After the intro piece ‘The Reaping’, the opening ‘Agent Of Dismay’ leaves no question unanswered: a fine and diversified Thrasher with a remarkable chorus and finest SLAYER-styled guitar leads. Nodding to the gods, huh? The following high speed riff massacre ‘Predatory Kill’ should break any neck, as well as ‘Hallowed Ground’. With the B-side opener ‘By Sword, By Pick, By Axe’, DEATHSTORM have created another smasher that should be ringing in the ears of any Thrasher for weeks and even years. Can we call this one a catchy song? Yes, we can! Thankfully, this one has a mid tempo break to relax the neck muscles. The intro piece of ‘Unholy Lamentations’ again nods to the gods in the finest way before this one becomes a high energy Thrasher with fine breaks again. The most diversified track on “Reaping What Is Left” is ‘G.R.L.’, perfectly timed breaks and speed changes here, yet the energy level is on a peak again and the riffs are tight and killing. The final ‘Dying Insane’ is an ultimate get out-dance… Well, slam dance should describe this kind of dance more precisely. Nevertheless, it ends an album that might be short in running time, but in my eyes, this running time is absolutely perfect, for it is an ultimate dose of thrashing on highest energy levels. With this album, DEATHSTORM are absolutely ready to claim the throne of Thrash Metal. Buy it, listen at top volume and thrash the house!
