Cover artworks should be the gate to the musical word of the specific band and in case of the third FOLKEARTH release it’s the perfect introduction to their mystic Pagan Metal. The whole booklet is like a small gallery full of impressing pictures and really a dedicated piece of art. Coming back to the music it’s for sure the FOLKEARTH album with the widest range of influences. The 30 involved musicians from nearly a dozen countries are definitely the major reason why the 17 songs are raging from calm folklore based hymns to – for FOLKEARTH standards – Metal stricken monsters. “Drakkars In The Mist” has been recorded – if the terminus could really be used for a band situated all over the world – in 2007 and it’s for sure the most suitable release for our die hard readers especially for fans of the old Viking / Pagan Metal days. Parallels to the first NIGHTFALL and EINHERJER releases (before they completely changed their musical direction) can be identified even if the FOLKEARTH style is still in some way unique. As usual there are some songs which are falling under the love / hate category but for example the title track with great “Danish” vocals (MERCYFUL FATE) or ‘De Tause Fjell’are more than just good played Pagan Metal songs. “Drakkars In The Mist” is again a great trip to the ancient heathen temples crossed by the well known and (expected) Pagan melancholy.
