IMPRECATION
Theurgia Goetia Summa
(Die Todesrune Records)

Finally we no longer need lurk about eBay in hopes of securing a copy of IMPRECATION’S legendary best-of compilation. For far too long originally released in 1995 on Repulse Records, “Theurgia Goetia Summa” brims with atmosphere, mighty and ominous. A stark contrast to over-produced albums by fat cat labels, which we still put up with today. IMPRECATION hail from Texas, home state of some of America’s most demonic bands, NECROVORE being the immortal example of just how twisted the Lone Star State can grow. IMPRECATION’S music is cavernous, dark; a place of evil where sacred blades cut flesh, phrases are incanted, and demons summoned. It’s been said of Death Metal that it sounds like the descent to Hell. If so, IMPRECATION is not the soundtrack to a fall from grace, but the evil fanfare which fills the sulfurous air around the damned, those already consigned to the fiery pit. “Theurgia” is a step beyond the threshold. None escape unscarred. www.deathtomankind.com
