This is a re-release of INQUISITION’s first album courtesy of Hell’s Headbangers. Completely remastered, with new / exclusive artwork on digipak CD, deluxe double LP on colored vinyl and a limited run of 111 copies on picture disc. The band was formed in Colombia and relocated to Washington State, USA. I am really wondering if this is the same band I saw after reading the reviews of the other two INQUISITION albums here in VFTD. I remember seeing these guys live in my country some years ago. The absence of a bass player was a major let down and I was not impressed by their style of Black Metal, which I find rather boring. Combining mid-paced parts with doomy passages and a few blastbeats, the music is enjoyable up to a certain point. The songs are varied and built on some catchy and melodic riffs that switch between haunting open chords and some dissonant fifths. Drumwise, Incubus’ performance is also good but nothing outstanding. The production is above average for the style, without being polished or too modern. Now, on the downside, I really can’t stand the "vocals". Dagon’s performance is some kind of guttural recitation with no aggression and / or emotion whatsoever. So I guess it fits the "cold" atmosphere of their style. The album has been remastered, so I am think that actually there has been an improvement in the overall sound compared to the original release by Sylphorium Records. Any person that enjoys (or has enjoyed) INQUISITION, will find in this re-release a opportunity to get a better sounding product and exclusive new packaging.
