Well, to get things straight right from the start. Those of you ghouls who love their Death Metal murky and filthy, skip this review because MIASMAL should not appeal to your listening pleasure. This Gothenburg quartet which started back in 2007 is back on track with their already third full length and man, this one is just great. Already in their early days these dudes stood out of the mass and so with the years to come they managed to create their very own Death Metal cosmos, which resulted in their best release so far called "Tides Of Omniscience". Even though they are hailing from Sweden, they don’t sound Swedish at all to me and that’s just great! I mangled my mind while listening to this album, in order to find any suitable comparisons, but they just didn’t come to my mind. On some parts I thought I felt reminded of the later ABLAZE MY SORROW, but that would not do justice to this fantastic release at all. It’s been a while since I had the pleasure to explore such a harmonious album. Starting with the once again fantastic artwork drawn by Mattias Frisk, the forceful and clear, yet organic production which emphasizes the terrific guitar play and the powerful drumming and ending with the songs themselves. Tracks like ‘Eartbound’ and ‘Perseverance’ are perfect examples for the authenticity of MIASMAL. They just push boundaries whilst incorporating D-Beat rhythms, some Thrash influences and those outstanding guitar solos. Also the raspy / rough voice of vocalist / guitarist Pontus leaves a special note and adds that essential dose of aggression. So, what’s left to say? This is sophisticated Death Metal for all those who dare to think outside the box and are open minded enough to discover such a refreshing and entertaining release. Satisfaction guaranteed!
