Old school Death Metal nowadays seems to be as popular as it was at its peak back in 1991. A lot new talented bands spread around the stench of putrefaction and keep the contributors of the underground zines very busy. NECROWRETCH is one of those talented newer bands. They present their second full-length album now again via Century Media, who still have a fine taste for talented underground Death Metal bands. The difference in their sound compared to CHAPEL OF DISEASE or OBSCURE INFINITY is the blackend darkness, which found its way into their sound without playing Black Metal at all. Maybe MARDUK on "Dark Endless" is a small hint what I mean. The opening track ‘Black Death Communion’ is a real Death Metal highlight, cleary showing, how old school Death Metal should sound nowadays. Death Metal vocals between screams and caws, low-tuned guitars and fast drumming with pounding double-bass. The nine tracks have a running time of 35 minutes only, but the band really managed to record material, which seems to sound similar during the first listen but grow from spin to spin and I was astonished to figure out, that I finally listened to the album three times in a row without getting bored at all. The quality of the material is on a high level, but highlights are the mentioned opener and ‘Even Death May Die’, a really cool track with killer drumming and guitars. The production is clear and brutal, sounding old school and heavy yet modern and fresh. All in all another Death Metal highlight in this still young year and I am sure to find this outout in the top ten list of 2015 of some of the contributors here.
