This is a completely new band for me. I have not seen them in passing mentions or flyers, etc. and I’m even a fanboy / watcher of many bands hailing from Spain. In their Metal Archives listing, they are categorized as Black / Death Metal, but I do not see that at all. What we have here is a band that has moments of mid-era MOONSPELL and touches of TIAMAT, but also bits of KATATONIA as well. There can also be bands / artists mentioned outside the Metal realm that comparisons can be drawn to here. I see them more as a slightly progressive Post Black style of a group. As you can probably see they are a bit hard to categorize, but they are musically very interesting. The band incorporates such a range of influences and styles into their songwriting and I may get a bit of pushback on this, but they do sound for the most part unique. There is a range of emotions happening in each song. From what I can tell, the songs are predominantly sung in Spanish (Catalonian, sorry) and offer a lyrical dynamic that begs to be researched and looked into. Even the band’s name is derived from a poet and his writings. This aspect is well for me in this stage in my life where I am looking and reading into the works of different poets authors and philosophers just draws me in further. To know, experience and understand what they are saying is part of the grab for me. If I have to voice a negative, it would be their sound or maybe just the overall production. It is a little light and sort of Pop sounding. Mind you, this is in no way a bad thing but the more close-minded Metalhead may disregard this. Believe me, I know, I was one of those in my early days. There are no heavy riffs and full-on blast beats, screaming, or guttural vocals. A perfect gateway band for those progressive, shoegaze Metalheads to delve into something a bit different. Still, as I listen to this, I find myself drawn into it, because it brings something a bit different to the table. It cleanses that palette and offers new and enticing soundscapes for us to delve into further. Also of interest are some of the members who also play / have played in CRUCIAMENTUM, FOSCOR, SHEMHAMPHORASH, so maybe they wanted to look into the new and different moods as well. Delve into them for yourself. More info at: www.facebook.com/vidresalasang, www.facebook.com/eternaljuggernautrecords
