TANK
War Of Attrition Live 1981 - Expanded Edition
(Maniacal Records)
76:06min

This album originally got released on Zoom Club Records back in 2001, featuring an amazing 8 song live show, when TANK was supporting MOTÖRHEAD on their "No Sleep ‘Til Christmas" European tour at the Westfalenhalle in Dortmund, Germany on December 07, 1981. At the time the band was promoting their killer debut full length "Filth Hounds Of Hades" (which MOTÖRHEAD’s "Fast" Eddie Clarke had produced), so apart from the two excellent single B-sides ‘The Snake’ and ‘Steppin’ On A Landmine’ their setlist mainly consisted of tracks from that particular album. It seems that this show was supposed to be released as an official TANK live album back in the 80s already as vocalist / bassist Algy Ward mentions something about it during the set… Too bad it didn’t turn into reality, because it might have helped to increase TANK’s popularity a lot at the time. The sound quality is extremely good and the band was obviously motivated to the max! The Zoom Club version got completed by a 3 song demo (featuring ‘Shellshock’, ‘Run Like Hell’ and ‘Blood, Guts And Beer’) in perfect quality, so I suppose it was dublicated from the original recordings. I’m not quite sure, but it might have been the very first TANK studio recording ever (don’t quote me on that though). Five years later Maniacal Records from the US takes over the whole project and delivers this re-release, which offers the same material plus seven additional songs. You’re getting another two demo tracks (‘Too Tired To Wait For Love’ and ‘Man Who Never Was’), 3 recordings from a radio session (‘Hammer On’, ‘Don’t Walk Away’ and ‘Heavy Artillery’) and two more live tracks from Parkpop, Holland on June 04, 1982 (‘T.W.D.A.M.O.’ and ‘Blood, Guts And Beer’). The sound quality on all of these can’t compete with the material on the original release, but still good enough to be of big interest for die hard fans of the band. The packaging of the release was changed a bit as well. Instead of the TANK logo type cover of the original release, you’re getting a very cool comic type coverart now and a well done photo collage of lots of vintage TANK memorabelia. Great one!
