Everyone knows WOMBBATH. When I first saw the art for “Internal Caustic Torments” I assumed it had something to do with dentistry. I mean, look at it without judgement and you can see how the artwork could be a focussed x-ray of some terrible tooth that got infected. Now, not that their debut full length reeks of perfection but nevertheless, it is considered as part of the rich tapestry of Death Metal music. That was 1993, the band disappeared for the longest time returning in 2015 with their second ever full length, the Metal mafia took an immediate notice. Their return was an absolute solid slab of Metal that gathered excellent reviews from fans across the world. It is quite rare for a band making a comeback to put out an excellent record. However, WOMBBATH has been on a mission to deliver quality music ever since. Most of their releases are of excellent quality, they don’t invoke boredom (it’s ironic that’s how an album is now being assessed) and often have excellent songwriting at least for 50% of their album. “Beyond The Abyss” is WOMBBATH’s seventh full length. Released on the excellent Pulverised Records, the band seems to not have aged at all. In fact, they seem to have cracked the code for 2025 and have surprisingly kept in line with the current need for Death Metal. Brilliant songwriting, excellent solos, no unnecessary garbage anywhere. This is a lean-mean-modern-death-machine! Just play it loud on your home Hi-Fi system and you’ll know what I’m talking about. “Beyond the Abyss” is an excellent 2025 Death Metal release. It is important I mention the year because the landscape of the genre is evolving and WOMBBATH have managed to keep their output steady, their songwriting crisp, their solos interesting and their sound relevant. Recommended! Get a copy and play it at home. Play it for your friends and if possible go see them live!
